Observer is a large photographic ink jet print, mounted on dibond. This work explores moments of time found in a constant environment and how individually, people observe and insert themselves into those spaces. The piece has peephole-like spaces laid out in a grid format with a lot of black negative space between them. Each individual image depicts a different moment in time and the negative space is meant to represent the feeling of time passing, and of moments that may have been missed. There are also individual images that have been altered or fictionalized, and while they further alter these spaces, they also evoke more thought around truth, narrative, and ethics in relation to photography. This work leads viewers to question their role in their environments and how at any given moment they can be the observed, the observer, or both, and what that means for them within these spaces and in these moments in time.

Observer II, 2022, Photographic Ink Jet Print, 44x61

Observer II was part of a multi-artist exhibition titled THE OBSERVED in 2022
Observer II evolved into a two-part work that now pairs the print with a video piece.
Still incorporating themes of time and environment, the video piece further distorts our comprehension of the perceived space.
