Observer II explores moments of time found in a constant environment and how individually, people observe and insert themselves into those spaces. The piece has peephole-like spaces among a lot of black negative space. Each individual image depicts a different moment in time and the negative space is meant to represent the feeling of time passing, and of moments that may have been missed. There are also individual images that have been altered or fictionalized, and while they further alter these spaces, they also evoke more thought around truth, narrative, and ethics in relation to photography. This work leads viewers to question their role in their environments and how at any given moment they can be the observed, the observer, or both, and what that means for them within these spaces and in these moments in time.
Observer II evolved into a two-part work that now pairs a photographic print with this video piece.
